Deep-hole gun drill entering a metal workpiece

Capabilities / Gun Drilling

Deep-hole drilling, done properly

Gun drilling is our founding specialism — deep, straight, high-accuracy holes that general machine shops outsource. We run it in-house on dedicated machines, and have done since 1983.

What is gun drilling?

The right process for deep, precise holes

Gun drilling — also called deep-hole drilling — uses a long, single-flute tool and high-pressure through-tool coolant to bore holes with a high depth-to-diameter ratio while holding tight tolerances on straightness and position.

It's the process of choice when a hole is too deep, too straight or too accurate for conventional drilling. We quote and manufacture from your STEP, IGES or 2D drawing, and friendly advice is always available if you want to talk an application through.

Depth without drift

Gun drilling keeps holes straight and on-centre to depths that a standard twist drill simply can't hold.

A superior bore finish

Single-flute tooling and through-tool coolant leave a clean, accurate bore — often with no secondary operation needed.

Dedicated machines

We run gun drilling on purpose-built machines, not adapted mills — so it's faster, more repeatable and in-house.
